A Day Outdoors – For the Active Ones

A package featuring snowmobiling, camp stay and dog sledding

Feeling active and keen to experience authentic Northern Norwegian winter adventures? We recommend leaving the city behind and joining Lyngsfjord Adventure for an adventurous day and evening day at our wilderness centre Camp Tamok, a 75-minute scenic drive from downtown Tromso in Northern Norway.

Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, we dress in warm winter gear and begin the adventure with thorough safety instructions and a practical demonstration. It is then time to follow our 22 km snowmobiling track that leads you between the snow-covered mountains up to a frozen lake and back. Lake Finn marks the halfway point of our snowmobiling adventure and is a good place to take photos and play in the snow.  You will drive in pairs with one driver and one passenger per snowmobile and plenty of opportunities to switch places during the two-hour snowmobiling adventure.

After driving back down the trail and switching off the snowmobiles, we will serve you a hot lunch in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. During the relaxing camp stay, you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea while feeding the campfire and explore the wilderness camp at your leisure. The unique environment at the camp is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the silence. Our camp host will share stories about the local area and make sure you do not miss the early Northern Lights if they appear. After the hot drinks, there will be plenty of time to enjoy the camp at your leisure before the dog sledding adventure in the evening.

When the time has come, your guide will give you thorough safety instructions and a practical demonstration. You will share the sled with another person: You will be the “musher” (driver) half the way and can sit back and enjoy the ride the rest of the way. You can switch places midway during the 12 km dog sledding trail. Depending on snow conditions, we will spend approx. 1 hr 30 min to complete the trail.

After the dog sledding adventure, we will serve you a hot meal in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. After relaxing and warming up, you can board the bus back to the city and reflect on a memorable adventure.

A day at Camp Tamok is an adventure in itself. The dark and silent surroundings provide a genuine Arctic atmosphere. We will return to Tromso by midnight. Please note if you want to stay longer and further improve your chances of experiencing the Northern Lights, you may wish to consider an overnight package combined with a set of activities.
